OVERVIEW
The division's primary objectives to
promote high standards of contractor practices and conduct, to foster
cooperative relations and continue to support quality construction on a
local level. Central Ohio AGC maintains close ties with the national
office, AGC of America. This solidifies the informational link between the

The AGC negotiates labor
contracts covering the Central Ohio area. The division staff serves on
various industry committees, in management positions and administers
apprenticeship programs. In its continuing effort to bring skilled
craftspeople to the industry through the apprenticeship programs, the AGC
hopes to avoid the shortage of workers predicted over the next several
years.
Benefits of membership in
the association substantial savings on overnight shipping through DHL.
Additionally, AGC members
can participate in the AGC of Ohio's group workers' compensation program
and realize savings on their insurance premiums. Conference and training
facilities, equipped with big screen TV for video presentations, are
available for members' seminars and meetings usage.
The division has always
been supportive and protective of contractors rights and has engaged in
many battles to preserve these rights and has engaged in many battles to
preserve these rights.
For example, on the day of
the Croson decision, the Columbus City Council doubled its minority/female
quotas on construction contracts. As an alternative to race and gender
based programs, the association initiated a mentoring program for
disadvantaged and emerging businesses that paired them with successful
contracting firms and successfully defeated the City's efforts.
Another division success
involved a board of education. The ethics of the bidding process has been
highly scrutinized in the Central Ohio area. On one occasion a board of
education, in violation of the Ohio Revised Code, took proposals for both
architectural services and construction managers under the same contract.
The AGC with the assistance of legal counsel, Schottenstein, Zox & Dunn,
forced the school board to take separate proposals for each construction
service contract.
In essence, this is what
the association is about: contractors of skill, responsibility and
integrity upholding ethical practices in the construction industry.
The association maintains
close contact with members through various publications. The bimonthly
newsletter, Hard Hat; safety alerts, safety zone, and quarterly
newsletters for construction advancement contributors, all ensure that
members are kept up-to-date on what's happening on the local and national
levels in the industry.
